The Venue
The inclusion of Sport Climbing at the Olympic Games illustrates the fresh approach that Paris 2024 added to its Games: showcasing a modern sport practised in an area with a young population in order to promote maximum participation. Along with the Olympic Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, the Le Bourget Sport Climbing venue has been the only sports facility to be built specifically for Paris 2024. Looking well beyond the Paris Games, this facility represented a response to a need and an expectation in the Seine-Saint-Denis area.
Five climbing walls have been used during the Games: one indoor for warming up, and four outdoor walls – three for competitions and one set aside for competitors to warm up on.
The indoor facilities provided a lasting legacy for the Games in a department that has a major shortage of sports facilities and was ranked 103rd out of 105 departments.
Paris 2024 Olympic Legacy: Growing the Sport Worldwide
Following Climbing’s second appearance at the Olympic Games, a dedicated legacy initiative was put in place to support long-term development of the sport across the globe.
Once competition concluded, the distinctive Holds, Macros and Volumes used at Paris 2024 began a journey to benefit IFSC member federations on five continents, helping to inspire and grow Climbing in each region.

Highlights of the legacy plan include:
· Africa: South Africa has receive holds for use in continental events, workshops, and coaching clinics. Part of the material is used to organise Continental events, and part of the materials has been redistributed to African NFs to grow the sport in the region.
· Asia: Equipment destined for Jordan has supported regional and continental clinics, educational courses, and development activities for officials, coaches, and athletes.
· Europe: Equipment was left in the Le Bourget competition venue, where the warm-up and isolation areas have being repurposed into a public climbing gym named Marie Paradis, honouring the first woman to summit Mont Blanc.
· Oceania: Australia received legacy materials which was used for hosting competitions and development initiatives.
· Pan America: El Salvador has been selected as a key beneficiary, with further legacy and support programmes planned region-wide. Full programme information HERE.
