WORLD CLIMBING GENERAL ASSEMBLY OPENS ONLINE FOR 23RD EDITION

High participation marks virtual meeting as streamlined agenda focuses on statutory decisions

The 23rd World Climbing General Assembly opened today in a fully online format, bringing together National Federations from across the globe for the organisation’s annual institutional meeting.

Originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the Assembly was moved to a virtual setting following the ongoing conflict in Iran, with the decision taken to prioritise the safety and wellbeing of all participants.

STREAMLINED AGENDA

Due to the online format, the agenda has been streamlined to focus on statutory items requiring reporting and approval. Broader discussions and strategic exchanges have been deferred to upcoming in-person meetings.

In particular, key topics will be further addressed at the Climbing Summit scheduled for December 2026, allowing for more in-depth dialogue among stakeholders.

LOOKING AHEAD

The in-person General Assembly initially planned in Saudi Arabia has been postponed and is already scheduled to take place in April 2027, recognising the efforts of the local organising partners.
