LAVAL ORGANISERS WIN SUSTAINABILITY AWARD

The World Climbing Sustainability Award is an initiative to recognise the efforts and sustainability practices of event organisers

The Local Organising Committee of the Para World Cup Laval 2025 have been awarded first place for the 2025 Sustainability Award, with Innsbruck second and Curitiba third.

Evaluated and awarded by the World Climbing Sustainability Commission, chaired by USA athlete Jesse Grupper, the event in Laval, France was praised for its consistency across all areas under evaluation.

With criteria such as financial responsibility, media and communication, innovation, and alignment with their National Federation values considered, Laval was commended for their environmental impact, social responsibility and strong emphasis on legacy – three additional criteria for consideration.

Taking first place meant receiving recognition and a €6,000 prize, with the Innsbruck organisers receiving €4,000 and Curitiba organisers €2,000.

All World Cup and World Championship event organisers in 2025 were eligible to apply and the winners showed that despite the range of experience, sustainability is a core component in the organisation of World Climbing events. Both Laval and Innsbruck have hosted many World Climbing events while Curitiba was the first in the South American continent.
