South Korea to mark historic milestone for the sport with fourth stop of the Para Series.
World Climbing is pleased to announce that Gunsan, South Korea, will host a Para Climbing event in October and November 2026 as part of the World Climbing Para Series 2026.
The event will be the fourth stop of the Series, following competitions in Salt Lake City, USA; Innsbruck, Austria; and Laval, France. Scheduled to take place from 30 October to 1 November 2026, the Para Climbing competition will be held in conjunction with a World Climbing Asian Series event in Boulder and Speed.
More information, including the detailed schedule of both events, will be communicated in due course.
A LANDMARK SEASON FOR PARA CLIMBING
The introduction of Gunsan into the 2026 calendar represents a significant moment for Para Climbing. With the evolution of event naming over the years — from Para Climbing Cups, to Para Climbing World Cups, and now the World Climbing Para Series — the 2026 season will officially become the Para Climbing season with the highest number of events since 2014, when four Para Climbing Cups were staged.
PARA CLIMBING RETURNS TO SOUTH KOREA
Located in North Jeolla Province and situated on the south bank of the Geum River, just upstream from where it flows into the Yellow Sea, Gunsan will become only the second-ever city outside Europe or the United States to host a Para Climbing event, following the Para Climbing World Championships held in Seoul, South Korea, in September 2025.
The return to South Korea also builds on the momentum generated at Seoul 2025, where both South Korea and China competed for the first time in Para Climbing at an international event. Their participation marked an important milestone for the growth of Para Climbing in Asia and highlighted the reach of the sport beyond its traditional strongholds.
