The holds, macros and volumes from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games were distributed around the world, and in Arco, Italy the legacy can already be felt
As part of the Olympic legacy, all of the equipment from the walls, to the autobelays, to the holds were all distributed across the world with the aim of increasing the exposure and strength of climbing and build a connection to the Olympic Games.
Speaking at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games World Climbing President Marco Scolaris said: “Our philosophy is, and has always been, to ‘make the world better through climbing’, so legacy is a very important part of that for World Climbing. The distribution of the Olympic equipment will be a source of inspiration long after the Games is over.”
Jordan was the destination for Asia with material intended to be used to host regional and continental clinics and educational courses for officials, coaches, and athletes for all the National Federations in the West Asia region.
In Arco at the World Climbing Youth Championship 2026, Jordan are attending their first ever event at the world level, and coach Jean Ouriques knows it is in part to the Olympic legacy programme:
“After Paris [2024] we received a bunch of the climbing holds from the event and that allows us to have access to good resources on the climbing walls and touch the same holds as everyone. This brings a lot more quality to our training and more possibilities and not have everything unknown to them.”
There are five athletes from Jordan in Arco at an event that has seen all of climbing's Olympic champions pass through in previous years; Hashim Jafar, Ali Abu Hamatto and Rakan Alnahhas will compete in the men’s competitions and Yasmeen Al-Majali and Yaya Qutaishat compete in the women’s.
